Punjab Trader Dies Of Heart Attack After Counter-Intelligence Team Points Guns At Group

Rajesh Kumar Soni, 55, died of a heart attack after the Counter-Intelligence Agency conducted a raid and pointed revolvers at a group of local traders, triggering panic.

In a shocking incident from Mullanpur in Punjab’s Mohali, a trader died of a heart attack after a team from the Counter-Intelligence Agency in Kharar allegedly pointed revolvers at a group of traders playing cards, as per reports. Another person was hospitalised in critical condition.

The team comprised five officers dressed in civilian attire, who arrived in Mullanpur on Monday, following an intelligence input. On that occasion, the market was closed and several local shopkeepers had gathered to play cards, which is a regular routine on Mondays, eyewitnesses told The Indian Express.

An eyewitness, Rajesh alias Pammi, described scenes of panic as the team drew their weapons without identifying themselves as police personnel. “They suddenly pointed revolvers at us without saying they were police. Everyone panicked, thinking gangsters were attacking," he said.

The deceased was identified as Rajesh Kumar Soni, 55, who died of a heart attack due to shock. Another man collapsed and was rushed to GMCH-16, Chandigarh, for treatment.

Police officials confirmed to Hindustan Times that the deceased had a history of heart disease and diabetes. However, residents alleged that the officers’ aggressive conduct led to panic and indirectly caused the death.

Police Officers Assaulted

The bizarre incident heightened tensions in the area, as angry residents surrounded and assaulted two members of the police team before senior officers intervened. Additional police personnel were deployed to bring the situation under control.

The two officers were later taken into police custody, while DSP Mullanpur Dharamvir Singh, SP (Rural) Manpreet Singh, and the SHOs of Majri and Kurali police stations worked to pacify the crowd, as per The Indian Express. Police assured locals that strict action would be taken after the investigation.
