Sagar Singh talks about his foray into the acting industry and how he battles the struggles of this arduous profession. Excerpts: Q: How and when did you get into acting?I was part of my school’s drama club, and being on stage felt incredible.
I did everything I could to stay connected to the stage because that feeling was addictive—it felt like a drug.
That’s when I realised this is what I want to do in life- to live infinite lives by being an actor. Later, I got an opportunity from a Punjabi channel for a short film called Phagwara Bypass. After that, I worked on a few other projects. During the period when I wasn’t part of any project, I used social media to act—or let’s say, overact—and continued expressing myself creatively.Q: How is punjabi industry in terms of the competition and struggle as compared to Hindi industry? The Punjabi film industry is beautiful. Punjabi people are full of emotions, and so are their films. Most Punjabi projects revolve around family, relationships, and friendships—things we all relate to deeply. However, many projects tend to be monotonous, with films often following a similar template in terms of genres and storylines.
The Punjabi industry has immense potential to experiment and try different kinds of stories, and I truly hope that happens soon. As for struggle, it exists everywhere. The key is to keep working on yourself and find your own way through it.Q: Who inspired you to be an actor? It has always been Shah Rukh Khan. I absolutely love him. His journey inspires me deeply—a guy from Delhi who came to Mumbai with a dream most people thought was impossible, yet he believed in himself and made it happen. Today, he is the face of Bollywood and the biggest outsider this country has ever witnessed. I’m waiting for the day I get to work with him—even if it’s just for a second.
