PUSU election likely to be held next month

Anticipation is high as Patna University gears up for its Students' Union elections next month, stirring memories of a week-long student protest that sparked renewed activism on campus. Vice-Chancellor Namita Singh is set to unveil the election timeline shortly.

Patna: Elections to the Patna University Students’ Union (PUSU) are likely to be held next month. A formal announcement regarding the details of the elections would be made by vice-chancellor Namita Singh shortly, according to a PU notification.The university notification was issued following a week-long agitation launched by a section of students who were sitting on dharna at the university office demanding announcement of the union election schedule.The last elections to the union were held on March 29, 2025 in which nearly 19,000 students had exercised their franchise to elect five key office-bearers and 22 executive members of the union. The polling was held at 42 booths located in 14 different institutions under tight security arrangements and counting of votes was completed the same day, said PU students’ welfare dean Anil Kumar.For the first time in the history of PUSU since its inception in 1959, three of five key offices of the union were grabbed by girls. Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP)- supported Maithili Mrinalini of Patna Women’s College (PWC) was elected president.
