Rahul Dravid steps down as Rajasthan Team head coach ahead of T20 2026

The Rajasthan team has confirmed that Rahul Dravid will not continue as head coach, ending his second stint with the franchise just months before the T20 2026 season. Dravid, 52, who was appointed in September 2024 on a multi-year contract, was offered an expanded role following a structural review but decided to step away instead. “Rahul has been at the core of the team’s journey for many years. His guidance, leadership, and ability to build a strong culture have left a lasting impact,” the team said in an official statement while thanking the former India captain for his service. Dravid first joined the Rajasthan setup in 2011 as a player and mentor, later transitioning into a coaching role until 2015. His return in 2024, fresh off guiding India to a T20 World Cup title, was seen as a major boost. However, the 2025 season proved underwhelming. The team managed just four wins in 14 matches, finishing ninth on the table. Dravid also faced personal challenges during the season, fulfilling his coaching responsibilities while recovering from a foot injury that kept him in a wheelchair for several weeks. With Dravid stepping down, the Rajasthan camp is expected to begin its search for a new head coach or hand over the reins once again to Kumar Sangakkara, currently serving as the team’s Director of Cricket.
