Oscar Piastri, leading the F1 championship for McLaren, dislikes the nickname "Ice Boy" despite his calmness. The Australian has won four of eight races this season.

Oscar Piastri has earned a reputation for staying cool under pressure, even showing glimpses of the ‘Iceman’ demeanor after his victories. However, the Australian prefers not to be called “Ice Boy."

Leading the Formula One championship for McLaren, Piastri was offered the nickname after securing pole position with an impressive lap during the heat of qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix.

A reporter suggested Piastri could be the heir to Finnish “Iceman" Kimi Raikkonen, the 2007 world champion for Ferrari, due to his calm attitude.

“I’m not sure I want to go by the name ‘Ice Boy’," Piastri responded, eliciting laughter from the room.

“I think the emotions are different each time. There have certainly been qualifying sessions and races where it wasn’t nonchalant, and there was a lot of emotion behind them. But then there are others where you go out knowing that if you do a good enough job, you can achieve the result you want."

“Don’t get me wrong, it’s incredibly satisfying, but I think I’m just not a particularly emotional person. That’s just how I am."

Piastri added that he can have his emotional moments but recognized that Saturday was only part of the job, and the real celebration could wait until after Sunday’s race.

The 24-year-old, born in Melbourne and educated in England, has won four of the eight races this season, and Saturday marked his fourth pole position of the campaign. He is three points ahead of teammate Lando Norris, who won from pole in Monaco last Sunday to close the gap, but Piastri has shown no signs of feeling the pressure.

“It’s nice to start on pole, but it’s not the end of the weekend. The points come tomorrow. After the races, it depends on how the race went. If you’ve battled with someone the entire race and then win, you’re pretty pumped up. But if you have a bit of a gap, then you know with a few laps to go that it’s going to go your way, and it doesn’t spill over as much," said Piastri.
