Indian Railways will implement a revised fare policy from December 26, 2025, affecting passengers on Ordinary, Mail, and Express trains.
Under the new structure, passengers travelling up to 215 km in Ordinary Class will not face any increase in ticket prices. For journeys exceeding 215 km, fares will rise slightly — by 1 paise per kilometre in Ordinary Class and 2 paise per kilometre in Mail/Express services, applicable across both Non-AC and AC categories.
The revision is expected to generate additional revenue of around Rs 600 crore. For example, a passenger travelling 500 km in a Non-AC Mail or Express train will pay approximately Rs 10 more than the current fare.
Officials also clarified that there will be no change in the fare of monthly season tickets and no increase in suburban train fares.
The fare adjustment is aimed at balancing operational costs while keeping rail travel largely affordable for short-distance commuters and daily passengers.
