Raja Raghuvanshi Murder Case: Sonam Raghuvanshi, who is the prime accused in the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, reportedly disguised herself in a burqa while on her way to Uttar Pradesh, police said after questioning one of the cab drivers who took her across the border.

Sonam was found at UP’s Ghazipur after her husband was murdered in Meghalaya during their honeymoon last month. Sonam is currently in the custody of Shillong police, along with co-accused Raj Kushwaha, her alleged lover as their police remand was extended by two days on Thursday.

Investigators traced two drivers, Mohit and Piyush, who took Sonam to UP after she was fleeing Meghalaya, according to a report by the Times of India. Mohit appeared before the crime branch and told police that he and Piyush were hired by Raj and took Sonam in an Ertiga vehicle on June 8.

While the police were desperately looking for Sonam after her husband’s decomposing body was found, Mohit said Sonam was dressed in a burqa during the drive to Varanasi and refused to stop the vehicle at any roadside eatery during the 1,000-km journey.

Sonam would later surface in Ghazipur, around 90 km from Varanasi, at nearly 1 am on June 9 to place a call to her brother from a dhaba (roadside eatery). She was soon arrested by the police.

So far, five have been arrested by the Meghalaya Police in connection with the case, including the wife of the deceased and four others: Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, Raj Singh Kushwaha, and Anand.

Upon her arrest, Sonam claimed she was drugged, abducted, and abandoned in Ghazipur. However, the police said she had surrendered in the case and later confessed to her involvement in Raja’s murder, reportedly after being forced to marry him.

Police on Thursday also summoned two female employees who had worked with Sonam at her brother Govind’s office. Govind accompanied the employees to the police station, where they were interrogated for several hours, ToI reported.

Police alsorecreated the crime scene in Meghalaya, saying Raja was attacked by Vishal, Anand and Akash, after which the trio and Sonam damaged the victim’s phone. According to police, Sonam was having an affair with Kushwaha who worked in her family’s business of lamination sheets used in furniture.
