A viral video shows pantry staff on Rajdhani Express allegedly collecting tips via barcode. IRCTC has responded amid growing scrutiny over staff conduct

The Rajdhani Express remains one of India's premier trains, rivalling the Shatabdi and Vande Bharat Express in speed and comfort. Its swift service and high-quality facilities have long made it a preferred, albeit costly, choice for long-distance travellers.

Securing a ticket can be a challenge, but once aboard, passengers often praise its comfortable berths, attentive service, and commendable catering.

However, a recent incident aboard the Rajdhani Express has sparked controversy, following the circulation of a viral video showing a catering staff member allegedly soliciting money from passengers.

In the 32-second clip, a young pantry worker is seen holding up his phone, displaying a barcode to passengers in an air-conditioned coach. He appears to be collecting something from each individual, though no direct mention of money is made in the footage. Passengers are heard murmuring phrases like “I gave it too” and “Okay, no problem”, lending weight to the claims.

The video was uploaded by a user named @Pritam_Tayde0 on X, who reported travelling on Train No. 22691 from KSR Bengaluru to Nagpur Junction, specifically in coach B2. In his post, he alleged that the pantry staff were requesting passengers to contribute to "expenses", claiming the money would be shared among staff members.

Responding to the viral post, the official IRCTC account replied, “Sir, please share the mobile number directly.” The user declined, stating concerns over potential harassment. “If I share the number, then your people will start harassing me,” the user said.

While the clip does not conclusively prove monetary solicitation, it has cast a shadow over the reputation of the Rajdhani Express. The train, which has been in service for 55 years and was once a symbol of elite rail travel in India, now faces renewed scrutiny over staff conduct.
