Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K. Selvaperunthagai on Saturday slammed AIADMK leader K.T. Rajenthra Bhalaji for stating that the Congress party should be dissolved, and said Mr. Bhalaji should watch what he spoke as he did not know the history of the Congress. Mr. Selvaperunthagai demanded that Mr. Balajhi apologise and ‘take back’ his words.
In a statement to the media, the TNCC president said the senior leadership of the AIADMK should have reprimanded Mr. Bhalaji for his comments.
“What history does the AIADMK have? In 53 years, they have faced several losses. The Congress is a 140-year-old party. It is a people’s party. How can he speak about the Congress party and its leader Rahul Gandhi? How many seats did you win in the 1996 Assembly election? He should answer that,” he said.
Mr. Selavperunthagai said that the Congress never claimed that it was a front-runner to capture power in Bihar.
“Rashtriya Janata Dal is the bigger party in Bihar. We never said we were a front-runner. In 1996, Jayalalithaa lost both the constituencies she contested in. Did the Congress ask AIADMK to dissolve the party? This is the difference between the calibre of AIADMK and Congress. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami should have reprimanded him. Such people are given party posts.,” he said.
Mr. Selvaperunthagai said that Congress continues to be the ruling party in Karnataka and Telangana.
