Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday hinted at the impending launch of INS Aridhaman, India’s third indigenously built nuclear-powered submarine, in a post on X, writing: “Its not a word, it means power, ‘Aridhaman’!”
Equipped with longer-range missile capability, INS Aridhaman is expected to bolster India’s sea-based nuclear deterrence, enhancing both strike potential and survivability in line with the country’s nuclear doctrine.
The announcement coincides with his visit to Visakhapatnam, where he is set to commission the indigenously built advanced stealth frigate Taragiri today. Visakhapatnam, home to India’s nuclear submarines, serves as both their construction hub and current home port.
Earlier last year, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi had also said that INS Aridhaman would be commissioned between April and May. Speaking at the annual pre-Navy Day in December 2025, Admiral Tripathi confirmed that the advanced submarine has now entered the final stages of its trials.
