Ranchi: The Ranchi district administration has directed the Durga Puja organising committees to follow safety measures like obtaining no-objection certificates from fire and electricity authorities, installing CCTV cameras, deploying adequate number of volunteers at the pandals.Stating that “maintaining law and order and ensuring public safety is top priority”, deputy commissioner (DC) Manjunath Bhajantri on Saturday urged the Puja committees to ensure that proper electricity load management and fire safety arrangements are in place before the celebrations.“All pandals must be equipped with CCTV cameras and manned by volunteers in uniforms with identity cards. The fitness of immersion vehicles must be ensured and drivers prohibited from consuming alcohol,” the DC added.“All police station in-charges must stay in constant touch with pandals set up in their jurisdiction. Idols should be immersed only in the presence of police personnel,” Bhajantri added.SSP Chandan Kumar Sinha urged each of the puja committees to send five volunteers for training to be provided by the police.“The lists of volunteers should be sent through the respective police station in-charges. All Puja committees must ensure separate entry and exit points for men and women.
Committees must deploy women volunteers to ensure the safety of women. Police will also deploy women police personnel at the pandals,” he said.Strict action would be taken against those trying to spread rumours and disturb harmony, SSP warned.DSP (Traffic) Pramod Kesari directed the puja organising committees to ensure adequate parking spaces around the pandals to avoid traffic snarls.Puja committee ensuring the best coordination and security arrangements would be awarded, the DC said.
