The Civil Supplies department has resumed delivery of ration items, except kerosene, at Edamalakkudy, the first tribal panchayat in the State. According to officials, Devikulam Girijan Cooperative Society, the distributor, did not supply ration at the panchayat in July due to the Scheduled Tribe Development department’s failure to clear outstanding transportation costs. The society used to transport the ration items from Pettimudy to Edamalakkudy.
Sanjaynath R., civil supplies officer of Devikulam taluk, said the Civil Supplies department had now signed an agreement with two persons to transport ration items from Pettimudy to the ration shops located in Societykudy and Parappayarkudy in Edamalakkudy. “They will deliver the items to the ration shops, and the department will meet the cost of the transportation,” said the official.
Poor condition of road
According to officials, due to the pathetic condition of the Edamalakkudy-Pettimudy road, the transportation of ration goods is difficult. “Two days ago, a vehicle carrying ration goods was trapped in mud. Without proper road connectivity, we cannot ensure ration distribution in the area,” said a source.
