P.M. Ismail, Chairman of Consumerfed (Kerala State Co-operative Consumers Federation), said the federation played a major role in controlling inflation in Kerala this Onam. The federation recorded sales worth ₹187 crore this season — ₹62 crore more than the previous Onam season. To meet the festive demand, 1,579 Onam special markets were set up in addition to sales through 164 Triveni supermarkets.

Consumerfed offered subsidies on 13 essential commodities, while other items were sold at discounts ranging from 10% to 40%. Rice varieties such as Jaya, Kuruva and Matta were sold at ₹33 per kg. Thus, 9,536.28 tonnes of rice were distributed to 15 lakh families across the State. Coconut oil was sold at ₹339 per litre, compared to nearly ₹500 in the open market.

Several cooperative ventures, including Milma, Raidco and Dinesh, also made use of the markets provided by the federation for their Onam sales.
