Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Thursday directed officials to identify and clear roadside vendors operating alongside unsafe compound walls across Bengaluru, as part of precautionary measures following recent rain-related incidents. Two street vendors were killed, and four were injured in the Bowring Hospital compound wall collapse on Wednesday.
Mr. Shivakumar told presspersons that instructions had already been issued to officials to survey such vulnerable locations and take immediate action. “Vendors should not be allowed to operate near compound walls that pose a risk. Officials have been told to identify such areas and ensure clearance,” he said.
