Resident Evil Requiem Showcase reveals Leon’s gameplay
Resident Evil Showcase | January 15, 2026
The Resident Evil Showcase highlighted Leon's gameplay in the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem.
Essentially, the combat is being inspired by Resident Evil 4, and the character is set to have far more action-oriented sequences compared to his partner, Grace Ashcroft. In the video, it was noticeable that Leon had enhanced combat capabilities. You will certainly be able to experience some intense, over-the-top action sequences throughout Resident Evil Requiem.
Leon’s melee weapon, parry mechanics, and more in Resident Evil Requiem
As seen in the showcase, Leon can parry enemy attacks with a handy new hatchet.
The same is going to be his primary melee weapon in Resident Evil Requiem. This parry system is a wonderful introduction, given that it introduces a defensive layer to Leon’s combat. Using the same, you will be able to block and counter incoming attacks strategically. The hatchet will essentially serve as both an offensive and defensive tool, making it central to Leon's combat in the game. You will also have the ability to shoot zombies in their limbs to disable moves, stagger them, and also set them up for brutal melee finishers.
This limb-targeting system rewards you for your precise shooting, and it also creates some close-quarter follow-ups. Another wonderful mechanic is that Leon can now pick up weapons from fallen enemies, giving you special options in certain encounters.
Gameplay contrasts with Grace
The Resident Evil Showcase highlighted differences between Leon and Grace Ashcroft. Grace's gameplay leans more into the horror side of things and is reminiscent of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.
While playing the particular character, you will be encountering more of the tight spaces and stealth-focused segments. Grace is far less combat-capable than Leon; however, she has an extremely powerful revolver called Requiem, which will help her get out of difficult situations. This was all you needed to know about Leon’s gameplay in Resident Evil Requiem.
