Over 100 residents of LB Shastri Nagarin East Bengaluru, gathered on Sunday morning to participate in a slogan march against the illegal dumping of waste on public roads. The march was aimed at raising awareness and demanding immediate action from authorities to tackle the escalating garbage crisis and related issues plaguing the area.
The rally saw participation from senior citizens, and youth alike, holding placards and chanting slogans on cleanliness and environmental preservation. The focus was primarily on key problem zones, particularly near Ganesh Temple Road, LBS Main Road, and Ayyappa Swamy Temple, in the stretch between two apartments -- Aditya Soigne and Srinidhi Central Park.
The residents, participating in the march, highlighted the growing menace of indiscriminate dumping, with everything from household garbage to sofas, commodes, and even animal waste being thrown along the roads, particularly in the BEML land stretch. This has not only resulted in foul smells and health hazards but also attracted stray dogs, cows, and even eagles, creating a concerning situation for the community, they said.
“We at LBS Nagar, along with more than 100 residents, gathered together on Sunday morning to bring awareness to people around us to keep our area clean and healthy. Unfortunately, people continue to litter the corners, especially near the temples and the main road. It’s high time we act collectively,” said Sneha Shivaram, one of the organisers.
As part of the awareness campaign, posters detailing best practices for waste segregation and disposal were circulated among residents. Discussions were also held on pressing concerns like irregular garbage collection, lack of proper drainage, and illegal vehicle parking on narrow roads.
