Ribbhu Mehra, currently seen in Bade Achhe Lagte Hain 4, expresses his concerns about the television industry's declining charm due to short-lived shows and payment delays.
Actor Ribbhu Mehra, known for his role in Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, has returned to television after a brief hiatus. Last seen in shows like Swaraj and Bindiya Sarkar in 2023, Mehra had been exploring opportunities in OTT platforms and music videos.
Despite his recent off-screen presence, he maintains that television remains his preferred medium.Currently, Mehra plays the parallel lead, Nikhil, in Bade Achhe Lagte Hain 4, starring Harshad Chopda and Shivangi Joshi.“Honestly, I love television, but its charm is fading,” Ribbhu said. “Earlier, shows would run for four to five years. Now, many don’t even last five months. The biggest drawback is the uncertainty—a show can be pulled off-air at any time.”He also highlighted ongoing payment issues in the television industry. “Payments are often delayed by a minimum of 90 days after shooting, and even then, full payments aren’t always guaranteed. I've seen colleagues face this. Unless these issues are addressed, fewer actors will want to commit to TV.”As a result, the actor has become selective about the production houses he collaborates with for television projects.
He expressed a growing preference for OTT platforms, citing clearer timelines and more reliable payment structures. “With web series, you know the duration of your commitment and can plan other projects accordingly. The working environment is also more relaxed.”Looking ahead, Ribbhu hopes the television industry evolves to become more actor-friendly. “I truly hope TV brings back its charm and makes the necessary changes to attract talent again.”Mehra’s past shows include Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin, Bohot Pyaar Karte Hai, Kumkum Bhagya, and My Name Ijj Lakhan.
