In a harrowing incident late Sunday night, a family residing in the Beur police station area of Patna became victims of a terrifying home invasion. Six armed intruders, utilizing a ladder to reach their secluded house, held the family at gunpoint and made off with over Rs 2 lakh in cash and jewelry.
Patna: Robbers looted jewellery and cash worth over Rs 2 lakh from a house in Hasanpura village under Beur police station area in Patna district after taking the family members hostage late on Sunday night.According to police, the criminals used a ladder to climb into the residence of Sundeshwar Rai, situated in a low-lying area surrounded by agriculture fields and waterlogged area, where only about two-three houses are constructed.Sushil Kumar, SDPO-I of Phulwarisharif, said the robbers took Rai, his wife, and their daughter hostage and locked them inside a room. “They then broke open a box and stole Rs11,000 in cash.
They also took away gold and silver jewellery. The family estimated the value of the looted jewellery at around Rs2 lakh,” he said.“After the theft, the robbers drank water inside the house, threatened the family members, then locked the door from outside and escaped. Police reached the place soon after receiving a complaint,” Kumar said.The SDPO inspected the crime spot. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team and dog squad were deployed to collect evidence, including fingerprints lifted from a glass the criminals used.
He said: “Nearby CCTV footage clearly captured images of two-three robbers, and the family identified two of them. According to the family of Rai, six people were involved in the crime. While four of them entered the house two remained outside to alert the four. At least two of the robbers were armed with firearms. The investigation is going on to identify the robbers.”
