While many of the accolades following Team India’s historic ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 triumph have been reserved for the players, head coach Amol Muzumdar remains the unsung hero, playing an instrumental role behind the scenes. Muzumdar galvanised the youthful and talented side led by Harmanpreet Kaur after they looked down and out in the league stage and masterminded their inspiring comeback, ensuring the elusive silverware was finally held.

Muzumdar, known as the unfortunate one among the most prolific run-getters of the Indian domestic game to have never represented India, had an illustrious first-class career playing for Mumbai. Making his debut in the 1993-94 season, Muzumdar kept piling on the runs but never received an Indian call-up in a career that coincided with that of legends Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Sourav Ganguly and Virender Sehwag.

Rohit’s post, hailing Muzumdar as an “unsung hero", resurfaced online after India’s tremendous win at the Women’s World Cup 2025 under his guidance.

“Amol Muzumdar, the unsung hero of Mumbai cricket, retires, leaving behind a tremendous record! Always put his whole heart into his game. #Respect," Rohit noted down in his tribute, paying great respect to the Mumbai stalwart.

Amol Muzumder represented Mumbai for domestic cricket from 1993-2009 before switching to Assam. He played with them until 2011 and then had two seasons for Andhra Pradesh before hanging up the boots in 2013.

Muzumdar ‘Proud’ Of Women In Blue

In a moment reflecting his humble nature, Muzumdar gave all the credit for India’s title victory to the players and stated he was “proud" of the achievement that will surely inspire the next generation of cricketers to take up the sport in India, giving every young girl the courage to dream.

“Absolutely proud. There’s no doubt about it. I don’t know, it’s not yet sunk in, but it’s an unbelievable achievement by all the girls. I mean, they deserve every credit. They deserve everything that will follow from here because they’ve worked terribly hard. I know for a fact that they’ve done extremely well, made every Indian proud," Muzumdar told the broadcasters after the win.

Muzumdar brings a wealth of experience to his job, having played 171 first-class matches in a career spanning two decades. He finished with a mammoth 11,167 runs, including 30 centuries and a best of 260.
