Right-handed pitching prospect Brandon Sproat will be making his Major League debut this Sunday in Cincinnati as the New York Mets are reportedly calling him up from Triple-A Syracuse, as cited by MILB Central sports reporter Chase Ford.

The 24-year-old from Florida will finally get his chance to show off his skills on the game's biggest stage following an up-and-down season in the minors. The Mets are in a tenuous position, still fighting for playoff contention, but also facing rotational inconsistency, which makes this call-up all the more crucial. The Mets have had several pitchers of his age make their debut this year, including Nolan McLean and Jonah Tong; now add Sproat to that list.

They are yet another trio in the organization’s tireless effort, especially as veterans continue to bog down the roster with poor form and injury, to mix and match the lineup with youthful exuberance and long-term potential.

Brandon Sproat’s Triple-A resurgence earns him call-up

Brandon Sproat's path to the majors has not been a walk in the park. He had a 6.02 ERA through May 31 of this season, leading to some questions about his readiness for the big leagues. But the 21-year-old bounced back nicely, showing poise and composure on the mound.

In his last 59 innings with Triple-A Syracuse, Sproat has a 2.44 ERA with an excellent 70:21 strike-to-walk ratio. In his last start, he showcased his development, tossing seven shutout innings while tallying nine strikeouts.

Sproat is most well-known for a lively fastball that consistently lands in the mid-to-upper 90s, as well as a hard slider and an improving changeup. His competitiveness and attack on hitters have been praised by scouts long before his transition to facing big league lineups almost certainly help him here.

His turnaround in the minors not just eased his question marks but also convinced the Mets they could trust him at a pivotal time for the team. Also Read: MLB 2025 Playoff scenes post Labor Day: Wild Card standings, bracket, division leaders and more

Mets banking on rookies to stabilize shaky rotation

It has been a reason for concern for the Mets all year long in regards to their rotation. With injuries and less-than-great outings from veterans like Kodai Senga and Sean Manaea, the club continues to look for and find it. Manager Carlos Mendoza has said there are opportunities available for younger arms, and Sproat is providing a solution at an optimum time.

Sproat joins McLean and Tong in a strong new wave of arms that should add depth, juice, and a little variety to the rotation.

The timing of the move is the icing on the cake. Sproat can now be included on a postseason roster if the Mets make the playoffs, now that September. Optimistically, at the end of a tight team race, the Major League in-team watching is coming, with all eyes on how the rookie adjusts to the pressure of playing in the bright spotlight.
