Hailing the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as the “world’s largest NGO", Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day speech on Friday said the country is proud of the organisation’s 100-year journey. The RSS, he said, has been dedicated to nation-building and is a service built on discipline.
“Hundred years ago, an organisation was born — the RSS. A century of service, dedicated to nation-building through individual development, with the welfare of society as its goal. With thousands of volunteers, it is a service organisation built on discipline. A hundred-year history of commitment. RSS is an inspiration and the nation is proud," he said.
“With the resolve of ‘vyakti nirman se rashtra nirman’ (nation-building through personal development), with the aim of welfare of Maa Bharati, swayamsevaks dedicated their lives to the welfare of our motherland… In a way, RSS is the biggest NGO of the world. It has a history of 100 years of dedication," the PM added.
The RSS, considered to be the indeological parent of the ruling BJP, will complete 100 years of its foundation this Vijayadashmi, which falls on October 2.
