The New York Giants signed veteran quarterback Russell Wilson in March 2025 on a one-year, $10.5 million deal. While he hasn’t played a single snap yet, his influence is already being felt during practices.
Head coach Brian Daboll has started to make changes to the team’s training plans —changes that were suggested by Russell Wilson himself. The quarterback, who just left the Pittsburgh Steelers after a disappointing season, seems eager to settle in fast with his new team. But what exactly did Russell Wilson suggest? Russell Wilson gave training advice to Brian Daboll, who agreed to it
On Thursday, June 12, at a team practice at the New York Giants’ training site in East Rutherford, New Jersey, Brian Daboll told reporters that Russell Wilson made a recommendation as to how to run practice.
Russell Wilson had asked for some more seven-on-seven reps—a hydration period type of passing day drill without the full defence.“That’s something Russell feels really good about,” Brian Daboll said. “So we’ve added more of those reps during our workouts.”The New York Giants head coach also said that they have started adding real-game situations to practices. That means players are being put into mock scenarios like managing the clock, reacting to different scores, and playing out entire quarters.
“We’re doing it every day now,” Brian Daboll added. “I think it’s important to listen to the quarterbacks. They touch the ball on every play.”

The New York Giants are clearly trusting Russell Wilson with more than just throwing the football. This is Russell Wilson’s fourth NFL team in five years, after time with the Seattle Seahawks, Denver Broncos, and Pittsburgh Steelers. The 36-year-old is already bringing his experience into play.
Brian Daboll, who has been the New York Giants' head coach since 2022, said he appreciated Russell Wilson's stupor of mind.
