South African left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj has been appointed as the new captain of Pretoria Capitals for the upcoming SA20 Season 4, replacing Rilee Rossouw, the franchise announced on Friday. The team had already unveiled a new coaching staff led by former India captain Sourav Ganguly as head coach, with former South Africa captain Shaun Pollock serving as his assistant."One of South Africa's most experienced and respected leaders, Maharaj brings a wealth of international pedigree across formats, along with a proven track record of guiding teams with composure, clarity and intent. Having captained South Africa in white-ball cricket and served as a senior figure within the national setup for several years, Maharaj's leadership experience, tactical understanding and consistency make him an invaluable addition in this role.

His presence strengthens the balance and direction of the Pretoria Capitals squad as the team heads into the new season," the franchise stated.

Maharaj previously led Durban Super Giants in the last season of the competition before making the switch to Capitals.The Capitals were notably active during the September auction, with the largest purse of 32.5 million Rand and 16 slots to fill. They set a new SA20 record by spending 16.5 million Rand on batter Dewald Brevis.

The team also secured several key players including Maharaj, Lungi Ngidi, Lizaad Williams, Craig Overton, Saqib Mahmood, and Codi Yusuf.Andre Russell, who recently stepped down as a player in IPL to become a power coach for Kolkata Knight Riders, joined as a wild card signing. Will Jacks and Sherfane Rutherford were retained from the previous season.The franchise has shown varied performance in the league. They topped the group stage in the first season but lost in the final to Sunrisers Eastern Cape.

In the following two seasons, they finished fifth and missed the playoffs.The new SA20 season is set to begin on December 26 with MI Cape Town facing Durban's Super Giants. Pretoria Capitals will play their first match against Joburg Super Kings the following day, with the tournament final scheduled for January 25, 2026.
