Salman Khan came in front of the camera way before he marked his film debut in 1988. It was for a soft drink commercial, and the actor was just 15 at that time. In a recent interview, the director of the ad revealed why he picked Salman for the role.

He also talked about how the actor swam in the Bay of Bengal full of sharks.

Kailash Surendranath recalls how Salman Khan came on board for commercial

In an interview with The Sell Side's YouTube channel, director Kailash Surendranath revealed that they picked Salman Khan just two days before the shoot. He shared that they shot the commercial in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.Khan was reportedly referred by a woman on Kailash's team who had witnessed him swimming at a club. The director shared that Salman wanted to impress the woman on Kailash's team, and hence he dived into the pool and came out on the other side.However, reportedly, Kailash was not super impressed by Khan when he first met him. The director said, "I thought he was a child because, was just 15. I said, 'This guy is a baby compared to everyone else.'"The director further revealed that he was told to ask Salman to take off his shirt. Reportedly, then Kailash understood that Khan was the perfect fit for the role.

The director recalled that when the actor came in front of the camera, he couldn't open his eyes due to reflectors.

He shared, "This was the first time he was facing a camera in his life. I told the cameraman to switch off all the reflectors. He switched it off, and it came out beautifully."

Shark-infested waters

Kailash then expressed that after filming for an entire day in the ocean, the team learned that the water was full of sharks.He said, "We shot in the boat and the sea the whole day, and then the navy guys told us, 'There are sharks here; what the hell are you doing? So we all jumped into the boat and changed location'."
