Sam Altman reveals OpenAI’s annual revenue; says ‘We’re doing well more than …’

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said the company is earning “well more” than the widely reported $13 billion in annual revenue, suggesting that the artificial intelligence firm’s growth is far ahead of public estimates.

Speaking on the Bg2 podcast hosted by investor Brad Gerstner, Altman said OpenAI could hit $100 billion in annual revenue as early as 2027, reflecting his strong confidence in the company’s future.Altman made the comments while discussing the ChatGPT’s massive $1.4 trillion investment in infrastructure, which has raised questions about how the company can justify such a large outlay given its current size. “We’re doing well more revenue than that,” Altman said when asked if the $13 billion figure was accurate.

OpenAI’s big bets on AI infrastructure

Sam Altman’s remarks come as OpenAI ramps up partnerships with major technology firms to expand its AI capabilities. In recent weeks, the company has announced major infrastructure deals with Nvidia, Broadcom, and Oracle. These collaborations are expected to strengthen OpenAI’s position in the growing field of AI cloud services. On the same podcast, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella — whose company is OpenAI’s largest backer — also appeared to discuss the growing demand for AI tools like ChatGPT and Copilot.

Despite its rapid revenue growth, OpenAI continues to post significant losses. According to a recent report by The Wall Street Journal, Microsoft’s latest earnings included a $4 billion charge that suggests OpenAI lost about $12 billion last quarter. Altman, however, dismissed doubts about OpenAI’s financial model, saying revenue is “growing steeply” and that long-term investments will pay off.He also emphasized that OpenAI’s advances in AI models and potential consumer products could create “enormous value” over time. When asked about OpenAI’s future, Altman said confidently, “We do plan for revenue to grow steeply. Revenue is growing steeply.”His bold prediction — that OpenAI could reach $100 billion in revenue by 2027 — marks one of the most ambitious forecasts yet in the fast-evolving AI industry.
