After winning 37 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, to become the third-largest party in Lok Sabha last year, the Samajwadi Party (SP) in 2024-25 fiscal received voluntary contributions of Rs 93.47 lakh, double to the amount received in the 2023-24 when the party had only five members in the House.

The party has shared the details of the contributions received – in excess of Rs 20,000 – during the financial Year 2024-2025 in October this year and the Election Commission made the declarations of all the political parties public on Saturday.

The analysis of the submission filed by party secretary general Prof Ram Gopal Yadav, says that the party received Rs 58.47 lakh from 15 individuals and Rs 35 lakh from three different companies.
SP received over 31 per cent of the total contributions — Rs 29 lakh – during the Lok Sabha elections — between April 18, 2024 and June 3, 2024. The results of the elections were announced on June 4.

The party received the highest contribution of Rs 30 lakh from Kolkata-based party treasurer Sudeep Ranjan Sen and his wife Aditi Sen.
SP received Rs 20 lakh from SLV Facility Management Pvt Ltd, Rs 10 lakh from Mumbai-based construction company Star Builder and Developers. The party received another Rs 5 lakh from a hospitality firm Imperial Gardens and Resorts.
Except for the two from Mumbai and the Sen couple from Kolkata, other donors are from Uttar Pradesh districts including Agra, Kannauj, Ghaziabad, Pratapgarh, Etah, Jaunpur and Guatam Buddha Nagar.

Sudeep Ranjan Sen was the biggest contributor for the party in 2023-24 too as he had donated Rs 25 lakh, that was 53 per cent of the total contribution of Rs 46.75 lakh that the party had received in that fiscal.
In a similar submission SP made to the Election Commission in 2023, the party had received Rs 26.92 lakh in 2022-23, that financial year after the 2022 UP Assembly polls in which the party had improved its performance as compared to 2017 elections.
SP chief spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary said that the party was receiving donations much less than its expectations. “SP is receiving donations from few people only. Due to fear of action from the BJP government, capitalists and business houses avoid contributing to SP,” Chaudhary said.
