Bollywood has a long history of adapting successful South Indian blockbusters, and the trend continues with the upcoming Hindi remake of 'Sankranthiki Vasthunam'. The original Telugu film, which became a sensation earlier in 2025, is now being reimagined for Hindi audiences with Akshay Kumar stepping into the lead role originally played by Venkatesh Daggubati.Directed by Anil Ravipudi, 'Sankranthiki Vasthunam' was released in January 2025 and quickly became one of the year’s biggest hits. The film grossed an impressive Rs.280 crore worldwide, earning the title of the highest-grossing Telugu movie of the year until September, despite not being dubbed into other languages. Marketed as a “triangular crime entertainer,” the story centers on a man torn between his wife and ex-girlfriend, blending family drama with dark humor and emotional undertones, which are hallmarks of Ravipudi’s filmmaking style.
Anees Bazmee to direct the Hindi version
For the Hindi version, the director’s chair will be taken by Anees Bazmee, known for hits such as Welcome, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, and Ready. Bazmee previously directed the Hindi adaptation of another Telugu success, Ready, which starred Salman Khan. According to reports, Bazmee intends to preserve the essence of the Telugu original while tailoring the narrative for a wider Hindi audience.Akshay Kumar, renowned for his versatility and impeccable comic timing, is said to have been drawn to the project’s mix of emotion and humor.
The female leads, Meenakshi Chaudhary and Aishwarya Rajesh, are in talks to join the cast. Production is expected to begin in early 2026 once Akshay completes his ongoing commitments.
Strong South–Bollywood collaboration continues.
The film will be produced by Dil Raju under the Sri Venkateswara Creations banner, reuniting the team that backed the original. Meanwhile, Ravipudi continues to make headlines beyond Telugu cinema, with his Bhagavanth Kesari being remade in Tamil by H. Vinoth, starring Thalapathy Vijay.The Hindi adaptation of Sankranthiki Vasthunam reinforces the growing cultural exchange between Southern cinema and Bollywood, combining regional storytelling with nationwide appeal.
