Minister for Public Works Satish Jarkiholi on Friday visited rain-hit areas of Mudigere in Chikkamagaluru district and assured the elected representatives that his department would take up works to restore the roads and build bridges wherever necessary.
The Minister was on a two-day visit to Malnad districts to assess the impact of heavy rains. He visited Mudigere-Saragodu Road, Kundur-Gabgal Road, and Kundur-Vagar Aldur Road. He also inspected the government higher primary school at Chandugudu in Aldur hobli, along with elected representatives and officers.
The Minister instructed the officers to prepare an action plan to build a 13-km-long concrete road to connect Aldur and Vagar. Later, he inspected the roads and bridges damaged in parts of the Sringeri Assembly constituency. He held a meeting with officers of his department at Khandya in Chikkamagaluru taluk.
Earlier in the day, speaking to reporters at Halase in Mudigere taluk, the Minister said that 100 footbridges will be built in the Malnad region this year. The construction of 20 footbridges at the cost of ₹20crore was already on.
Mr. Jarkiholi said legislators representing 36 constituencies had submitted requests seeking funds for footbridges. In the first phase, the government had provided ₹1 crore each to every constituency to build footbridges.
Referring to damage on the 40-km-long road connecting Mudigere and Sakleshpur, the Minister said the officers would prepare an action plan to take up the road work. Necessary funds would be allocated. He also pointed out that the construction of a road bridge at Bettadamane village on Mudigere-Sakleshpur road had been delayed over 11 years due to technical reasons.
Legislators Nayana Motamma, T.D. Raje Gowda, H.D. Thammaiah, MP for Hassan Shreyas Patel, and officers were present.
