Deputy Commissioner Kumar on December 19 inspected the historic Shivapura Satyagraha Soudha at Maddur taluk in connection with the preparation of a comprehensive development plan for the monument.
The Shivapura Satyagraha Soudha, associated with India’s freedom struggle, has been sanctioned a grant of ₹2 crore by the government for its conservation and overall development. During the inspection, the Deputy Commissioner directed the officials concerned to take up the proposed works in accordance with prescribed guidelines and ensure timely execution.
These works include repairing toilets in the annex building, drilling a borewell, installing name boards and stone plaques, constructing an arch gate, painting the Satyagraha Soudha, levelling low-lying areas on the premises, and laying interlock pavers.
Other proposed works include constructing a compound wall around the purified drinking water unit, installing iron gates, required stands, and seven portraits depicting freedom fighters, apart from deploying security guards on the premises.
The development plan also proposes to construct an annex building to showcase information on the Shivapura freedom struggle, freedom movements across the State and the country, and screen documentaries on Mahatma Gandhi. Reviving the musical fountain on the premises has also been proposed.
The Deputy Commissioner instructed officials to take up the works on a priority basis while maintaining quality standards and completing them within the stipulated time-frame.
