SC collegium recommends Tripura HC CJ’s transfer to Telangana HC

The Supreme Court collegium headed by Chief Justice of India B.R. Gawai has recommended the transfer of Tripura High Court Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh to Telangana High Court.

Once the Union government approves the recommendation of the Collegium, Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh will become the seventh Chief Justice of Telangana HC which was created on January 1 of 2019. After the sixth CJ of Telangana HC, Alok Aradhe, was transferred to Bombay HC in January this year, Justice Sujoy Paul was made the Acting Chief Justice. The Collegium recommended his transfer to Calcutta HC recently.

Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh secured degrees of BA (Honours) and LLB from University of Delhi. Having enrolled at Patna HC in 1990, he eventually shifted to Jharkhand HC in 2001 to practice as lawyer. In 2012, he was appointed as Additional Judge of Jharkhand HC and made permanent judge two years later.

After serving as Acting Chief Justice of that HC for nearly three months, he was appointed as Tripura HC CJ on April 17, 2023.
