The Tamil Nadu State Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes has initiated suo motu action against AIADMK IT Wing in-charge Kovai Sathyan for certain remarks, which the Commission considered derogatory towards the Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs).
During a discussion on a television channel, Mr. Sathyan reportedly said it was not true that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) would only affect SCs and STs. He allegedly made remarks mocking the “oppressed” and “suppressed.”
Chairperson of the Commission Justice S. Tamilvanan, Vice-President Imayam, and Member M. Pon Dhos said his remarks were highly condemnable. They directed the police to register a case under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, and to submit a report by 10 November 2025.
In the meantime, Mr. Sathyan said he was sorry if his remarks had hurt anyone.
