Saturday Night’s Main Event didn’t fade out quietly — it erupted.
John Cena’s final WWE match ended with shock, fury, and scenes that spilled far beyond the ring. After tapping out to GUNTHER in the closing moments of his career, the mood inside Washington D.C.’s Capital One Arena turned hostile — and it only escalated once the cameras stopped rolling.
As GUNTHER made his exit, fans unleashed their anger. New footage captured the WWE star being loudly booed and cursed at, with chants of “F*** you, GUNTHER" echoing through the arena corridors. Security stayed tight around him, escorting the Ring General all the way out as emotions threatened to boil over.
The outrage stemmed from how Cena’s story ended. The 16-time world champion fought with everything he had — surviving sleeper holds, landing Attitude Adjustments, and summoning one final burst of “Super Cena." But after more than two decades as WWE’s face, Cena tapped out clean. For many fans, that ending was impossible to accept.
Inside the arena, chants of “bulls**t" rang out as disbelief turned into fury. Outside, it only got louder.
GUNTHER — the man who retired John Cena — became the lightning rod. The ultimate heel reaction blurred the line between storyline and reality, forcing WWE to step in quickly.
With fans swarming, GUNTHER was rushed out under heavy security, hustled toward his vehicle to avoid the situation turning dangerous.
Behind the scenes, Triple H addressed the controversial finish, standing firm on the decision.
“John has said his entire career that it’s about leaving this place better than you found it," Triple H said. “You do what’s right for the business. John’s done that his whole career — and I’ll do the same."
Fans may not have wanted that ending, but WWE made its call.
Cena, emotional but composed, took his final bows, left his gear in the ring, and delivered his last words to the WWE Universe:
“It’s been a pleasure serving you all these years. Thank you."
