The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday ripped into the Congress over Rahul Gandhi’s “Prime Minister Narendra Modi surrendered" remark, saying that the Congress leader lacks the seriousness and maturity that the post requires.
Addressing a press briefing, BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi also referred to Rahul Gandhi as “self-proclaimed, self-styled, supreme leader" of the Congress party.
“By making extremely cheap, low-level statements, the self-proclaimed, self-styled, supreme leader, the leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, is telling the world that even after becoming the LoP, he lacks the seriousness and maturity that the post requires," Trivedi said.
“How Rahul Gandhi compared our armed forces’ valour and Army officers’ brief on the success of ‘Operation Sindoor’ with surrender, shows how sick and dangerous his mentality has become," he added.
The BJP MP further accused Rahul Gandhi of insulting the country’s self-respect, and said, “There’s a saying in Hindi – ‘Naya mullah zyada pyaaz khaata hai’, but here, ‘gair mullah iss kadar pyaaz khaane mein laga hai’, that he does not even realise how badly he is insulting India’s self-respect and the Indian Army’s valour."
“Till now, Congress leaders were making headlines in the Pakistani media, their statements were being quoted in the Pakistani Parliament. But for the first time, Rahul Gandhi has said something which even the army chief of Pakistan has not said, nor has any terrorist organisation of Pakistan. Even Masood Azhar or Hafiz Saeed have not said such a thing," the BJP MP said.
“None of them said that India surrendered. I want to ask Rahul Gandhi, does he want to get one step ahead of these people?" Trivedi asked.
“Till now, he was giving cover fire to the people of Pakistan, the Pakistani army and terrorist organisations. Is he trying to become their leader now?" he asked.
Also taking a dig at the party and Rahul Gandhi over poll losses, Sudhanshu Trivedi said, “The level of intelligence and wisdom of someone who sees receiving less than three points in their third attempt in the election result as a success, and sees being elected as the Prime Minister for the third time as a defeat is obvious."
“I want to ask the Congress party, has Rahul Gandhi insulted the Army by using the word surrender or not? He has used such a word which even Pakistan’s Army, terrorist organisations, or UN-designated terrorists Masood Azhar or Hafiz Saeed have not used," the BJP MP said.
Rahul Gandhi stirred a controversy on Tuesday after he alleged Prime Minister Narendra Modi surrendered after a call from US President Donald Trump during the India-Pakistan military conflict.
Addressing a party convention in Bhopal, he said the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, didn’t budge in the 1971 war despite the US sending its Seventh Fleet.
“A call came from Trump and Narendra ji immediately surrendered – history is a witness, this is the character of BJP-RSS, they always bow down," Rahul stated after launching the Congress’s ‘Sangthan Srijan Abhiyan’ in Bhopal.
Rahul said that India split Pakistan in 1971 despite America’s threat.
“Congress’s Babbar Sher and lionesses fight with superpowers; they never bowed down," he added.
He said no phone call came during the 1971 war. Even though the 7th fleet, weapons, and an aircraft carrier arrived, Indira Gandhi didn’t surrender and said she would do whatever she wanted.
