The State Education Policy (SEP) Commission will submit its report to the government by the second week of this month, said Higher Education Minister M.C. Sudhakar on Monday.

He was speaking at the release of a tri-monthly magazine by the Karnataka State Higher Education Council, which was released by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. After the launch, Dr. Sudhakar said the commission’s extended deadline passed on May 31. “The translation work is almost over and the final report will be submitted soon,” he said.

According to the officials of the department of Higher Education, the government cannot implement the entire policy at a time. “The implementation of the policy needs to be discussed at various levels of the government and it also needs a set aside budgetary allocation. If there is any particular recommendation which needs immediate attention or implementation in the interest of the students, then such recommendations will be considered. Basically, the policy will be implemented in a phased manner,” said a senior official of the department.

₹2,600 crore loan

The State government has given approval for the Higher Education department to get a ₹2,600 crore loan from the Asian Development Bank, mainly for the strengthening of Technical Education in the State.

Sharing the details, Dr. Sudhakar said, “The Department of Economic Affairs of government of India has also approved our proposal. The Asian Development Bank team will be visiting the state between June 9 and 22 to visit and verify the programmes we have proposed.”

Tri-Monthly magazine

The Tri-Monthly magazine launched by the Higher Education Department is the first-of-its-kind in the history of the department. The magazine will provide each and every information, including circular, orders and meeting proceedings of the department to the stakeholders. “It is basically to keep stakeholders updated about the developments in the department,” Sudhakar added.
