Series of events organised on International Women's Day in Madhubani

Madhubani: International Women’s Day was observed in Madhubani on Sunday with a series of events celebrating women’s achievements and underscoring the need for gender equality, education, and empowerment.DM Anand Sharma inaugurated the International Women’s Day programme at Nagar Bhawan by lighting the ceremonial lamp. In his address, the DM highlighted women’s progress from traditional roles to equal participation in modern society, driven by education and merit.The DM cited his decision to deploy women on election duty in 2025, which contributed to Madhubani district receiving a Presidential Medal for the first time.

He urged parents to educate daughters on par with sons and to remove barriers that hinder their progress.ASP Rashmi spoke about various government women empowerment schemes and encouraged women to seek police assistance without hesitation whenever required.Outstanding women were honoured with shawls and scarves across several fields, including Law (Vikramshila Devi), Politics (Soni Kumari), CDPOs (Rekha Kumari, Sweta Kumari), Madhubani Painting (Sumit Kumari, Pranidhi Jwala, Vidya Mandal, Siddhi Kumari), Medicine (Dr.

Ragini Kumari, Dr. Anju Kumari, Dr. Anamika), Entrepreneurship (Nutan Jha, Priya Kumari, Kanchan Kumari, Juli Kumari, Vibha Devi), Banking and Gramin Bank (Rashmi, Sapna, Kiran, Komal Sandil, Pushpa Singh, Monika Kumari, Riti, Rupam Kumari), along with several Anganwadi workers, supervisors, and others.The programme was anchored by Sharda Kumari and attended by senior officials.In another event held in Jhanjharpur on the occasion, an additional Sakhi One Stop Centre was inaugurated to further strengthen women's safety, dignity, and empowerment.Social welfare minister Madan Sahni virtually launched 11 such centres across the state from Patna, including Jhanjharpur. Locally, SDPO Subodh Kumar Sinha and DPM Hemant Kumar Mandal formally opened the centre.The Sakhi One Stop Centre provides integrated support — security, psychological counseling, legal aid, medical help, and other services — at one place for women in distress. It will ensure quick assistance, access to government schemes, and protection of rights.Present on the occassion were centre administrators Sushma Kumari (Madhubani) and Shayna Mirza (Jhanjharpur), Counselor Deepshikha Singh, Case Workers Gayatri Kumari & Manisha Kumari, Paramedical Neerja Shankar, Block Coordinator Alok Chaudhary, and local Anganwadi workers.
