Entrepreneur and Shark Tank India judge Anupam Mittal is known for his sharp insights and unfiltered opinions on business, innovation, and generational shifts. Recently, he shared a thought-provoking note on social media, reflecting on the work culture and mindset of India’s Gen Z and millennials.
His post struck a chord across the internet for its candid yet balanced take on today’s youth. He began by observing the environment in which India’s younger generation has grown up, writing, “India’s Gen Z and millennials have grown up in an economy that only went one way – up. No wars. No recessions. No real resets. We’ve never seen mass layoffs, inflation spirals, or a generation wiped out by debt.”While acknowledging the comfort this generation enjoys, Anupam warned that such stability can be deceptive.
“We’ve only seen opportunity. That’s comforting but also dangerous. Because comfort breeds complacency. So, when I hear that the current gen is entitled, it’s circumstantially true,” he explained. However, Mittal also gave credit where it’s due, adding, “Although few of the most brilliant people I work with are Gen Z and are my mentors.” He went on to underline that every generation develops resilience through adversity, noting, “Every generation is forged by its crisis.
And crisis builds character. WW2 gave the world resilience. The 1970s stagflation bred pragmatism. The 1990s crisis birthed liberalization.
”According to Anupam, India’s Gen Z has yet to face such a defining challenge, but when it does, he believes the nation will witness an explosion of raw talent and innovation. “The world doesn’t reward entitlement; it rewards evolution,” he concluded.Apart from being the founder of Shaadi.com, Anupam Mittal has gained immense popularity as one of the most respected sharks on Shark Tank India, inspiring countless young entrepreneurs with his business acumen and real-world wisdom.
