'Should Surely...': Henry Urges Arsenal To Complement Efforts With Trophy

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry opined that the Gunners, who finished second in the recently concluded season of the Premier League, should have trophies to show for their improvements over the past couple of years.

Arsenal went another season trophyless, and the London side’s most recent piece of silverware came in the year 2020 with the FA Cup title manager Mikel Arteta managed to win. The Spaniard has no doubt revolutionised the side, but the French legend felt that the former Arsenal midfielder should pick up titles to support his efforts.

“I’m not saying that I’m disappointed with Arsenal, but it’s normal that people are raising questions now about what the team is doing," Henry said on the Stick to Football podcast.

“I understand that at the very beginning you arrive and it’s not your team," the 47-year-old said.

“You need at the very least three or four transfer windows to change everything that you want to," he continued.

“It takes time and you have to give a manager time to be able to implement what he wants to do. For the last three years Arsenal have been in a situation where they should have at least brought one cup or reached a final," the club’s all time leading goalscorer iterated.

In addition to finishing second to Liverpool in the PL, Arsenal were ousted from the UEFA Champions League and the League Cup in the semi-finals.

Henry touched upon the recent silverware successes of PL strugglers Manchester United, who have reached multiple finals in the past five seasons despite grossly underperforming in the English top flight this season. United won the FA Cup in the year 2024. Arsenal’s local rivals Tottenham too ended a 17-year title drought with their recent UEFA Europa League triumph.

“Manchester United have played in five finals in the last five years, the United that everyone laughs at — whereas for Arsenal in the last three years of building, they’ve not reached a final," said Henry.

“So I do understand when people ask the question, ‘Surely you should compete for a trophy?'" the PL icon reflected.
