Shreyas Iyer latest: BCCI issues positive medical update and roadmap for India ODI vice-captain

Indian cricket star Shreyas Iyer has been discharged from the hospital after suffering a ruptured spleen and rib cage injury during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney. The 30-year-old vice-captain sustained the injury while attempting to take a catch of Alex Carey off Harshit Rana's bowling last Saturday, leading to hospitalisation and ICU treatment.

"The BCCI Medical Team, along with specialists in Sydney and India, are pleased with his recovery, and he has been discharged from the hospital today," said the Indian cricket board in a statement on Saturday morning.BCCI further clarified that the batter will remain in Sydney and recover. At a time when he feels better to fly, he will return home. Shreyas is not involved in the ongoing T20I series against Australia and his next assignment was due to be the ODIs against South Africa, which start on November 30.Earlier, Iyer had provided his first update since the injury through his social media accounts.

"I'm currently in recovery process and getting better, every passing day. I'm deeply grateful to see all the kind wishes and support I've received - it truly means a lot. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts," Iyer posted on X and Instagram.The incident occurred when Iyer initially walked off the field with the physio's assistance after attempting the difficult catch.

His condition later deteriorated as his vital parameters dropped, necessitating immediate hospital care.Medical tests revealed internal bleeding from a lacerated spleen, resulting in his admission to the ICU for close monitoring.The BCCI had confirmed on Tuesday that Iyer's condition had stabilised and he was moved out of intensive care."The injury was promptly identified, and the bleeding was immediately arrested.

His condition is now stable, and he continues to be under observation.
