In a significant breach of duty, a Buxar sub-inspector has been suspended following the escape of a suspect named Farhan from the police station's lock-up on January 19. The escape, which has raised serious concerns over procedural lapses, took place as Farhan managed to squeeze through a window grill in the restroom.
Buxar: Buxar SP, Shubham Arya, on Wednesday suspended a sub-inspector (SI) following the escape of an accused from the lock-up of the Town police station. The incident occurred on Jan 19 and was allegedly caused by negligence on the part of the on-duty officer.The accused, identified as Farhan, son of Zubaid and a resident of Khalasi Mohalla under the Town police station area in Buxar district, was arrested from Ludhiana (Punjab) in connection with the alleged abduction of a minor girl. He was later lodged in the Town police station lock-up.According to police officials, Farhan managed to escape by breaking the grill of the toilet window inside the lock-up. A preliminary inquiry revealed lapses in duty by the officer responsible for monitoring the accused.Following the incident, sub-inspector Izhar Khan, who was on duty at the time, was placed under suspension. Confirming the action, the SP said the suspension was ordered due to negligence that led to the escape of the accused.Police have launched a manhunt to trace and re-arrest the absconding accused. An internal inquiry into the incident is also underway.
