Siddaramaiah instructs DCs, ZP CEOs to respond to rain-related challenges immediately

With the early arrival of monsoon, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday instructed Deputy Commissioners and Chief Executive Officers (CEO) of zilla panchayats to execute the government’s programmes promptly and face rain-related challenges to make administration more responsive to the public.

Mr. Siddaramaiah, who chaired a conference of DCs and zilla panchayat CEOs to review various development works, at the State secretariat here, told officials to address petitions received at the Janaspandana programmes to ensure justice to applicants. He told the DCs and tahsildars to participate in the Janaspandana programmes every month at the district and taluk levels.

High rains in May

The State had been receiving very high rainfall in May, and as many as 28 districts have received more than normal rainfall. Already, guidelines have been issued for providing relief, the Chief Minister said, and directed officials to expedite the process of relief disbursal.

He also instructed the DCs and zilla panchayat CEOs to visit rain-affected areas and take steps to implement relief measures without delay. A sum of ₹1.2 lakh is provided for the houses that have been totally damaged. There is no shortage of funds for providing relief for rain victims, he said, and added that more than ₹1,000 crore is available under the SDRF in districts. He said it was necessary to form task forces in each gram panchayat by involving various departments.
