The Mysuru district committee of All India Democratic Youth Organization (AIDYO) launched a signature campaign demanding that the Union and State governments take steps to fill up all vacant government posts to tackle the issue of unemployment in India.

The signature campaign, launched near Kote Anjaneya Swamy Temple in the city on Thursday (October 6), was part of AIDYO’s nationwide campaign.

A statement issued by the district committee said the problem of unemployment was assuming “frightening” proportions in the country.

While there are over 9.78 lakh vacant posts in 78 ministries and departments of the Union government, there were 2.85 lakh unfilled posts in the State government.

Though the BJP in 2014 promised to provide 20 million jobs to the youth each year, even a fraction of the jobs had not been filled even after almost 12 years, AIDYO lamented.

Similiarly, the Congress had promised to fill up 1 lakh vacancies if it came to power, but the process of recruitment is yet to be initiated.

Corruption, question paper leaks, dismissal of employees, and privatisation of government departments has further worsened the situation, AIDYO said, pointing out that it was the duty of the government to provide employment to everyone, according to the capability of each individual.

While demanding that all vacancies be filled up immediately while new jobs are created, AIDYO said the age limit for all recruitments should be relaxed by a minimum of five years.

While demanding that the P.C. Hota Committee’s recommendations be implemented in the recruitment, AIDYO said complete transparency should be brought into all recruitment processes to prevent scams.

The other demands include stopping the privatisation of the public sector and abolition of the contract system so that all positions can be made permanent. AIDYO further said that gig workers across the country must be recognised as formal workers and guaranteed minimum wages and social security.
