SIT Submits 3500-Page Chargesheet In Zubeen Garg Death Case At Guwahati Court

In Zubeen Garg's death case, the SIT has arrested seven people, including main event organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, Zubeen's manager Siddharth Sharma, and others.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the death of singer Zubeen Garg submitted its chargesheet on Friday at the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Guwahati, Assam. The comprehensive chargesheet, comprising over 3,500 pages and accompanying evidence, was taken to the court in four trunks, according to officials.

The renowned singer passed away under mysterious circumstances while swimming in the sea in Singapore on September 19. He had travelled to the country to attend the 4th edition of the North East India Festival (NEIF).

The Assam government had constituted the SIT, led by Special DGP M P Gupta, to investigate into the singer’s death.

Gupta had earlier said that seven arrests have been made so far in connection with the case, including main event organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, Zubeen’s manager Siddharth Sharma, his cousin Sandipan Garg, bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, co-singer Amritprava Mahanta, and Zubeen’s PSOs Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya. All the accused are currently in jail.

During the recently concluded assembly session, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asserted that Garg’s death was a “plain and simple murder." Meanwhile, the Singapore Police Force (SPF), conducting an independent investigation into the death, indicated in a statement that their preliminary probe did not suggest foul play and that the investigation might take up to three more months.

Meanwhile, Congress MP and Deputy Leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, wrote a letter to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, urging a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Garg’s death.
