A detailed post-mortem report of security guard Ajith Kumar, who had died in police custody in Chennai’s Sivaganga on June 28, has revealed severe torture, which led to multiple brain haemorrhages.
According to the autopsy report, accessed exclusively by CNN-News18, Ajith suffered as many as 44 external injuries and a brain haemorrhage. He also had cigarette burn marks on some parts of his body.
Multiple deep bruises were also seen on Ajith’s body, the report revealed, thus suggesting severe torture while in custody.
An internal medical examination of his body also revealed that he suffered some head injuries.
A security guard at the Badrakaliamman temple in Thiruppuvanam, Sivaganga district, Kumar, who was taken for interrogation in connection with a theft case, allegedly died in police custody on June 28.
A video of his assault went viral.
Following the incident, five policemen were arrested, and the case was transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
