Six additional escalators in Trichy Junction by month end: DRM

Trichy: Trichy Junction railway station will get six new escalators by the end of this month, Balak Ram Negi, divisional railway manager (DRM), Trichy division informed on Friday.The DRM was addressing reporters to brief the eight shields and awards won by the division and employees here as a part of the 71st Railway Week Celebrations of Southern Railway recently held at Chennai.“Six additional escalators were installed at Trichy Junction, and will be commissioned by the end of June. Four escalators at Thanjavur junction and two at Villupuram junction will be commissioned by the end of the financial year. We will consider deploying workers to sensitize passengers in using the infrastructure appropriately,” Negi said.The DRM said that efforts are under way to increase the operational speed of trains, between Trichy and Villupuram junctions, before March 2027. Progress is made to fence the tracks in the stretch, he added.The DRM also said that as part of the division’s efforts to enhance safety at railway level crossings, Automatic PN Number Generation (APNG) system has been implemented at all 139 non-interlocked level crossing (NI-LC) gates here.

The APNG generates a private number (PN) only after sensors confirm that the level crossing gates are fully closed, ensuring a verification mechanism before train operations. The generated PN is exchanged with the station master prior to train dispatch and reduces the possibility of human error, he added.Meanwhile. Trichy division bagged the runner-up shield for the GM’s inter-divisional overall efficiency shield and won seven winner shields for achieving the highest efficiency in mechanical, medical, personnel, planning (work study) departments, best training institute (Ponmalai), best divisional store, and the best kept railway station (Trichy Junction). Four officers and 11 staff of the division were awarded for their meritorious work.
