Six arrested for stone-throwing during protest in Hattargi

The Belagavi Police have arrested six people on the charge of stone-throwing during a protest rally by sugarcane farmers in Hattargi on November 7.

They are 40-year-old Channagouda Sasalatti, 28-year-old Prashant Mugali, 25-year-old Vinayak Kotiwali, 46-year-old Mallappa Ghatagi, 29-year-old Shivanand Vani and 46-year-old Somayya Hiemath. The arrests were made on Wednesday.

They are not farmers. They are miscreants who tried to disrupt a peaceful agitation and bring a bad name to the agitation, Superintendent of Police Bheemashankar S. Guled told reporters in Belagavi on Thursday.

He that investigators traced all the six accused after scanning through footages of CCTV cameras in and around the place of the incident.

Cases have been registered in the Yamakanamaradi Police Station.

It may be noted that farmers protested for nine days seeking a base price of ₹3,500 per tonne of sugarcane.
