Former Vice Chancellor of Bangalore University B. Thimmana Gowda has said that skill-based education has become need of the hour for the present day students, and emphasised the need to provide professional and skill-oriented education.

Delivering the  Dr D.C. Pavate Memorial Foundation Lecture on “Transformation in Higher Education” in Karnatak University on Saturday, Prof. Gowda said that there had been a paradigm shift in education, from the traditional Gurukula system to the technology-driven education.

“We need an education system that can address current challenges and act as a tool to transform lives. Our education system must now integrate employment opportunities for students after graduation”, he said.

The National Education Policy had introduced innovative and student-friendly curricula that prioritised the future of the students he said, emphasising the need for strengthening industry-academia ties, reforms in academics, research, teaching and administration.

Vice Chancellor of Karnatak University Prof A.M. Khan described D.C. Pavate as a visionary educationist and the present generation should learn about his contribution and take inspiration from him.

Emphasising the need to revise the curricula and pedagogy in accordance with changing times, he said that teachers should continuously update their academic knowledge and empower students.

Registrar Shankar Vanikyal, Registrar (Evaluation) Nijalingappa Mattihal, Finance Officer C Krishnamurthy, Prof. Mallikarjun Patil and others were present.
