The most notable feature of the ₹327.27‑crore redevelopment of the Nampally railway station will be the construction of a 200‑metre skywalk connecting the station to the Metro station on the main road. The skywalk will be equipped with escalators and travelators to ensure seamless movement and easy interchange for passengers between the two transport systems.

This was disclosed by Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy during a media interaction after he inspected the ongoing works, along with SCR General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava and other officials, on Thursday.

Mr. Reddy said that the station, which handles 60 trains daily and sees a footfall of 28,000 passengers, will soon be equipped with 16 lifts and eight escalators, all connecting platforms to the air concourse. The redeveloped station will also segregate arriving and departing passengers, and create 6,500 sq. ft. of space for eateries, kiosks, toilets and other passenger amenities, in addition to basement parking.

The Minister pointed out that the other major railway terminals, including Secunderabad and Kacheguda, are also undergoing significant modernisation, while a brand new terminal at Cherlapalli has already been established. Railway budgetary allocations for Telangana have been increased to over ₹5,454 crore this year, he noted.

Over the past decade, SCR has achieved almost 100% electrification, except for one upcoming new line. It has constructed 346 km of new lines, upgraded 513 km of existing lines, and is redeveloping more than 40 stations across Telangana, Mr. Reddy said.

The ₹521.36‑crore Kazipet Railway Manufacturing Unit is expected to be ready for commissioning within three months, and railway works worth ₹47,984 crore are currently underway in Telangana. The indigenous Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system ‘Kavach 3.2’ has been deployed across 639 km covering 63 stations. Upgradation to ‘Kavach 4.0’ is in progress on these sections, along with new installations over an additional 384 route km, he added.
