Energy Minister K.J. George has denied the BJP’s allegations of “kickbacks” in the smart meter project for power connections in the State.
Speaking to reporters here, he said the BJP made similar allegations with regard to the construction of a steel bridge in Bengaluru. “Now, the bridge has not been built and the people are suffering,” he said.
However, he said the matter pertaining to smart meters had been taken to the court and the government would respond to legally.
He said the BJP made similar allegations against him in the D.K. Ravi case. He said the CBI probe in the case clearly said he had no involvement. “I was not even called for questioning,” he said.
When asked what was the reason for the BJP to keep targeting him, Mr. George asked the reporters to pose the question to the BJP leaders.
Responding to queries from reporters on “infighting” in the Congress and the possible change of guard, Mr. George said the Congress did not keep changing its Chief Minister like the BJP did. Siddaramaiah may remain the Chief Minister for five years or 10 years as long he enjoys the support of the people.
He pointed out that Mr. Siddaramaiah enjoyed the support of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP), including Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar.
