The Melparamba police have registered a case against a soldier for allegedly abducting, assaulting, and threatening a young woman after befriending her through Instagram.

The accused, identified as Aneesh Kumar, a soldier residing under the Cheemeni police station limits, allegedly forced the 29-year-old woman off a bus at Chattanchal Tuesday (October 28, 2025) afternoon.

According to the complaint, the woman was travelling from Cherkala to Kanhangad when Aneesh intercepted the bus, took her on a scooter to a deserted quarry at Poinachi Thekkil, assaulted her, and threatened to kill her by holding a knife to her neck.

The woman later escaped, contacted her parents, and lodged a complaint with the Melparamba police. She said that the accused had been following her persistently on Instagram, despite her objection, and that he had publicly assaulted her to cause humiliation.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident.
