In a shocking incident that took place onboard the Jammu Tawi-Sabarmati Express, an Indian Army personnel, identified as Jigar Chaudhary, was killed following an argument over a blanket and a sheet on the night of November 2. The incident reportedly took place in the sleeper coach of the train from Firozpur station in Punjab.
Chaudhary asked for a blanket and a sheet, which are provided by the Railways for all the AC coach travellers. However, the staff allegedly refused, leading to an argument between the two. The heated exchange soon turned violent, and the staff allegedly stabbed him in the leg, cutting an artery, which led to his immediate death.
Complaint Filed
An official complaint was filed based on the complaint by the TTE. After the train reached Bikaner, a murder case was registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Zubair Memon, the accused, has also been arrested, and the police have recovered the murder weapon from him.
National Human Rights Commission’s Reaction
Taking note of the incident, the National Human Rights Commission has called for a fair probe into the incident. The Commission has also sent notices to the Chairman of the Railway Board and the Director General of the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
The human rights commission has pledged firm action against the accused railway employee and assured justice and compensation for the slain soldier’s family.
According to the Commission, the complaint points to serious violations of human rights.
A bench led by Priyank Kanoongo reviewed the case and sought complete records from the Railways, including details of the attendant’s recruitment, qualifications, training, and police verification.
The Railway Board and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) have been instructed to submit an action-taken report to the Commission within two weeks.
